How to choose the right snowsuit size
A snowsuit needs room for play and suitable layers underneath. But extra length is not always helpful. Here is a practical way to choose a size and check that the fit works for your child.
Guide
The fit needs to work when your child moves
Ask your child to raise their arms, squat down and take a few steps. The snowsuit should follow their movements without pulling at the shoulders or crotch, or bunching up around hands and feet.
1. Start with your child’s current height
Measure your child without shoes, standing upright on a level floor. Use their height alongside our size guide and the information for the particular style. Age is only a guide: children of the same age can have different heights and proportions.
Avoid automatically adding an extra size. First assess the recommended size with the layers your child will wear underneath.
Guide
Measure first, then choose
Use your child’s current height as your starting point. Check the size guide for the particular style before judging how much room is needed.
2. Try it with the right layers
A thick mid-layer can change the fit. Try the snowsuit over everyday clothes and any additional layer needed for the outing. Fasten the zip and adjust any fit features before checking the size.
There should be room to move, but too much spare fabric can make the suit awkward to wear. A good fit lets your child play naturally.
3. Try three simple movements
- Arms up: Ask your child to reach overhead. The suit should not pull uncomfortably at the shoulders or crotch.
- Squat down: Your child should be able to bend their knees and hips freely.
- Walk and take a big step: Check that the legs move comfortably and that sleeves and trouser legs still provide suitable coverage.
Try it with boots too. Trouser legs and foot straps should sit as intended without getting in the way.
What if your child is between sizes?
Compare the size guide and consider body length, leg length and freedom of movement. The larger size is only a useful choice if it fits well now. Do not choose solely for a possible need later in winter.
If you are unsure, customer service can advise on the particular style. Tell us your child’s height and which snowsuit you are considering.
Guide
Leave room for everyday movement
A comfortable squat is a useful part of the fitting check. Look for freedom at the knees and hips, with trouser legs sitting sensibly over boots.
