How to choose rainwear for children
Rainwear should protect children from wet weather without getting in the way of play and movement. The right choice depends on the season, temperature, activity level and whether your child needs a complete set or separate pieces.

A rain set or separate pieces?
A set with a rain jacket and trousers is practical when your child will be outside for longer or the ground is wet. Separate pieces offer flexibility: a rain jacket can be worn alone on mild days, while an extra pair of rain trousers can stay at nursery or kindergarten.
Choose for the temperature and layers
Classic rainwear primarily provides a barrier against rain and wind. On cooler days, leave room for an insulating layer such as thermal wear. A thinner layer may be enough on milder days.
The fit should allow freedom of movement, but should not be so large that sleeves and trouser legs slip down or restrict the child. Try the rainwear over the layers your child normally wears.
Look at construction – not just the number
A water column rating describes the material's resistance to water pressure, but seams and openings also matter. Welded or taped seams, reliable fastenings and well-designed cuffs and leg openings all help rainwear perform in wet weather.

Rainwear for nursery and kindergarten
Label every piece and check foot straps, fastenings and fit regularly. Trousers that have become too short are more likely to ride above the boots. Keep suitable mid-layers together in the cloakroom so clothing can be adjusted to the weather.
Care and drying
Follow the care label and allow the clothing to dry properly between uses. Remove loose dirt gently and avoid unnecessary washing. Only use detergents and methods that are suitable for the material and stated on the label.
